About the Work

Creating and manipulating photographic imagery has been a dominant focus throughout my career. Working primarily as a Gaffer and lighting technician in the commercial film and video industries allowed me to observe how the collaborative processes of cinematography, lighting, art direction, set design and styling could be melded together to create compelling images (both real and unreal), move narratives forward, as well as inspire audiences.

While continuing to expand my interest in image making, specifically immersing myself in the study of the history, craft and current trends in contemporary photography and art, I find my visual interests gravitating more and more to abstraction.

By reducing an image to its basic components of form, shape and color the image can be isolated from its worldly context and allow a viewer to impose their own content and meaning upon that form.

Perhaps because of my long exposure to commercial imagery and image making, I prefer to work in color as opposed to the more traditional black and white. Instead of stripping an image of its color, by increasing the vibrancy and luminosity of a captured image it’s possible to further deconstruct and make less recognizable a given natural object.

As my work evolves, I hope to continue exploring the mysterious worlds embedded in the reflections and patterns of the natural world as a way to transform our experience and understanding. By offering up an alternative, more fantastical version of that commonplace, I am simply attempting to allow others to see the world as I do.
